The shelter-in-place order for ExxonMobil in Beaumont has been rescinded

ExxonMobil Beaumont Issues Shelter-in-Place Order for Local Neighborhood

BEAUMONT, Texas — In a precautionary measure, ExxonMobil Beaumont has issued an immediate shelter-in-place order for residents of the Charlton-Pollard neighborhood due to a potential hazardous material release from its nearby refinery.

Residents are advised to take immediate action by going indoors, securing all windows and doors, and turning off ventilation and air conditioning systems. To further minimize exposure, individuals should seal any gaps under doorways and windows using wet towels or duct tape. It is crucial for residents to remain indoors until an official "All Clear" notice is issued by local authorities.

The Jefferson County Courthouse will also be closing in response to the shelter-in-place order, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

Matt Gully, Public and Government Affairs Manager at ExxonMobil Beaumont, stated, "We are working safely to prevent a release and collaborating with all responding agencies. Our main focus is the safety of our workforce and community." He noted that local officials, in consultation with law enforcement and emergency agencies, hold the primary responsibility for issuing such orders to protect affected communities.

ExxonMobil expressed regret for any disruptions this incident may have caused to the surrounding community and reassured the public that they are taking all necessary precautions to ensure safety.

Residents are encouraged to stay tuned for updates from local officials as the situation develops.
